Q:

The cost of Type 1 rice is Rs. 15 per kg and Type 2 rice is Rs.20 per kg. If both Type 1 and Type 2 are mixed in the ratio of 2 : 3, then the price per kg of the mixed variety of rice is

A) Rs. 19.50B) Rs. 19C) Rs. 18D) Rs. 18.50

Answer:   C) Rs. 18

Explanation:

Let the price of the mixed variety be Rs. x per kg. By the rule of alligation, we have :

Cost of 1 kg of type 1 rice           Cost of 1 kg of type 2 rice

Given : Cost price of two types of rice say a and b is rs 11 per kg and rs 13 per kg.

obtain a profit of 20% by selling the mixture and b at the selling price of rs 13.68 kg

To Find : how many kilograms of b should be mixed with 26 kg of a

Solution:

Let say x kg of  b should be mixed with 26 kg of a

cost of 26 kg of a  = 26 * 11 = 276  Rs

Cost of x kg of b = 13x  Rs

Total cost = 276 + 13x  Rs

20 % profit = (20/100)(276 + 13x)  rs

Total SP = 276 + 13x  + 0.2(276 + 13x)

= 1.2(276 + 13x)

Total Mixture =  26 + x  kg

Rate = Rs 13.68 kg

Total SP = (26 + x)(13.68)

Equate total SP

1.2(276 + 13x)  =  (26 + x)(13.68)

=> 331.2 + 15.6x = 355.68 + 13.68x

=>  1.92x = 24.48

=> x = 12.75

Hence 12.75 kilograms of b should be mixed with 26 kg of a
