Costs of building a recirculating aquaculture system in india
Answers
Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) is a technology developed in the US that enables water with essential nutrients to be recycled for the survival of aquatic animals in a closed container. It is the parent technology behind aquariums and artificial fish cultures.
The RAS has several advantages including healthy fish growth, waste reduction, efficient water management etc. However, the biggest disadvantage it faces is the high cost of maintenance and upkeep. In India, resources required for the bio filtration process are very expensive and have to be imported. Similarly, the ventilation systems require a high level of precision and have several specifications that are expensive in India.
Hence, the cost of building an RAS in India is high although it might decrease in the years to come with the advent of further technology.
Recirculating aquaculture systems are used in home aquaria and for fish production where water exchange is limited and the use of biofiltration is required to reduce ammonia toxicity. Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) reuse the water many times, passing the water through treatment processes to remove waste and to restore water quality.
