Let's first take the LHS

=cot^2 - cos^2

=cos^2/sin^2 - cos^2

Taking cos^2 common,

=cos^2(1/sin^2 - 1)

=cos^2(cosec^2 - 1)

Using the identity cosec^2 - 1 = cot^2

=cos^2 x cot^2

Hence, proved.
