Cotton is a ‘natural polymer’ and its chemical name is called cellulose. Cellulose is a natural polymer which has a chemical formula \bold{(\mathrm{C}_{6} \mathrm{H}_{10} \mathrm{O}_{5})}.

It is a major polymer of the cell wall structure. About 90% of the ‘cotton fibre’ contains the cellulose. It is difficult to be digested by the humans as humans do not contain the cellulose enzyme, but can be digested by the herbivores as they contain the enzyme cellulose.
