First Stanza:

King Canute was thinking by the sea - shore in tiredness about all the fights he had done in his life.

Second Stanza:

He was walking between many of his ministers.

Third Stanza:

Each one of them were acting like the King's shadow. If he frowned, everyone was contracting their face in sadness. If he was laughing, everyone did the same.

Fourth Stanza:

Something was irritating him that day. His wife tried to console him but he told her to stay quite.

Fifth Stanza:

His minister ask him what thing he is worried about.

Sixth Stanza:

He said not the food but the heart he is worried about. The minister gave order to bring the king's chair.

Seventh Stanza:

The chair was brought and he sat on it.

Eight Stanza:

He said that he had been killing, robbing many kingdoms, but there is no happiness he can find.

Ninth Stanza:

The son of the defeated kings are waiting to fight with him but he is here already unhappy.

Tenth Stanza:

He says that he is tired and his day of dying is nearby.

Eleventh Stanza:

The minister flatter the king that he will live for more than fifty years.

Twelfth Stanza:

The minister flatter that he is above the normal people. He is equal to God.

Thirteenth Stanza:

The king said that he'll give order to the moon to stop the tide.

Fourteenth Stanza:

It didn't happen. He prove to his minister that he isn't equal to God.

Fifteenth:

At last, the king dies. But the minister like him - flattering the king with lies - still lives.
