QUESTION :-

If x = -2 is a root of the polynomial p(x) = -2x⁴ - 7x³ - 3x²- tx- 10 , then find the value of t

GIVEN :-

  • -2 is one of the roots of the polynomial -2x⁴- 7x⁵- 3x²- tx - 10

TO FIND :-

  • Value of t

SOLUTION :-

Root is nothing but the value of variable which makes the total value of polynomial equal to zero.

p(x) = -2x⁴ -7x³ -3x² - tx-10

\large\rm{\rightarrow{-2(-2)^4-7(-2)^3-3(-2)^2-t(-2)-10\:=\:0}}

\large\rm{\rightarrow{(-2)(16)-7(-8)-3(4)+2t-10\:=\:0}}

\large\rm{\rightarrow{-32+56-12-10+2t\:=\:0}}

\large\rm{\rightarrow{2+2t\:=\:0}}

\large\rm{\rightarrow{2t\:=\:-2}}

\large\rm{\rightarrow{t\:=\:\frac{-2}{2}\:=\:-1}}

∴ The value of t is -1
