We know that polygon of n-sides has
n(n-3)/2 diagonals.
So,1/x n(n-y)=1/2 n( n-3)
Equating both we get
x=2 and y=3

Oh. But then...how do I answer the question when that formula you've mentioned[n(n-3)/2] isn't given? Like, they gave some data: a polygon w/ 3 sides has 0 diagonals, 4 sides, 2 diagonals and so on...
