Differences among cells from different parts of a plant body:

The plant body is made up of different kind of cells each having specific functions. Every plant is made up of two basic types of cells- meristematic and permanent. The former would be found in the apical region (root and shoot apex), in the lateral region (cork and vascular cambium) and in the intercalary region (at nodes).

The latter are divided further into two types,

1. Simple permanent tissues

2. Complex permanent tissues

There are three types of simple permanent tissues,

1. Parenchyma

2. Sclerenchyma

3. Collenchyma

Parenchyma is the most populated variety of cell and is found almost everywhere on the plant body, forming the entire ground, epidermal and vascular tissue system. Sclerenchyma is found specifically in the dead portions of the body (fibers and hypodermis of a monocot stem), collenchyma is only found in the hypodermis of the dicot stem. Thus, different regions of the plant body contain different types of cells.
