“Counting your chickens again before they are hatched, are you?” Discuss with reference to Patol Babu and dwell on being more realistic in life than making castles in the air. This idiomatic expression means to become too confident about something regarding its success when in reality that thing might turn out to be a failure.

“Counting your chickens again before they are hatched, are you?” was an expression used by Patol Babu’s wife. After meeting Naresh Dutt, Patol Babu had become quite excited about the offer he had received to work in a film. Patol babu’s wife knew her husband’s nature. She did not like her husband’s idealism, daydreaming, and boasting about his past. After he broke the news about the role he was going to play in a movie, she scolded him not to count his chickens before they are hatched. She appeared to be quite critical of Patol Babu’s idealistic and dreamy attitude towards life. She believed these flaws in his personality did not let him become successful in life.

It is quite true we should not count our chickens before they are hatched. Patol Babu did it and he was disappointed at the end.
