In the third stanza the poet Edgar Albert Guest explains courage is not temporary and erratic like lightning that flashes and then is gone; courage is permanent, enduring, and lasting till the end. It stays with the man who has it through ups and downs. It stays with him in happiness; it is with him in his struggle and industry. It stays with him forever whether he needs it or not.
