Covalently bonded molecules are said to have strong bonds within the molecule but inter-molecular forces are small  this means that intra-molecular bonds are strong because the atoms within the covalent molecules are very tightly held together. But the inter-molecular forces are much weaker than the

intra-molecular bonds and this gives rise to the low melting and boiling points of these compounds.
