Assuming that the covers are of circular shape, the maximum diameter is 5 cm.Area of the circular sheet is πr^2 that is 3.14x2.5x2.5=19.625 cm^2
area of the square=25 cm^2.So area of wasted material is 25-19.625=5.375cm^2.

bareillydm: Diameter of circle = 5cm
