Cr 3+………………………………………………>Cr2O7 2-………………….. Cr trivalent is oxydised to heptavalent and is Oxidised. It is reducing agent. ClO1-3…………………………………………………..>ClO1—2……………………..ClO Negative III……….reduced to negative II and gets reduced, it is oxidising agent.


Oxidation:


Oxygen  oxygen O2  was historically the first oxidizing agent available or identified. Later, the term was generalized to encompass oxygen-like substances that can effect  parallel chemical reactions.


Reduction:


The meaning of reduction accordingly  generalized to include all processes involving gain of electrons.


Even though "reduction" duplicate meanings  when speaking of the gain of electrons, it might be considered  reduction as the loss of oxygen,
