Lonar Crater was formed by the impact of 2 million ton meteorite that hit the earth 57,000 years ago in Maharashtra.

The striking of meteorites (rocks from outer space)  formed a big bowl shaped hole on earth which the scientists referred as Crater. As this meteorite struck in Lonar region of Maharashtra, it was christened as Lonar Crater.
