A really simplified example of linear equations in two variables.

Imagine I have 100 dollars and I need to buy clothing and food. I will be using a simple equation:

Clothing plus Food equals $100. Or,

F+C=100

The initial letters make it look more like the algebra we studied in school.

Take one of the equations and solve it for one of the variables. Then plug that into the other equation and solve for the variable. Plug that value into either equation to get the value for the other variable.
