Here’s my story :
It was raining heavily. The street light had gone off and I was returning from work. The day had been really busy and I was left with a terrible headache. I was walking across the pavement rubbing my temples when suddenly, I hear a bloodcurdling scream piercing through the air. I instantly froze. I could say it came from the east side of the street. I was perplexed - should I go check what’s wrong or just ignore trouble? After all, it was almost midnight and mom would be really worried if I didn’t return home soon. Then I realized I was being a coward. Someone could be dead, I can’t just stand here. So I set off to where the scream had broken the silence.
I walk there rethinking if I was doing the right thing. The last thing I want is to be involved in a murder. But I can’t live with the guilt and the suspense if I leave now. So I keep walking and suddenly I see a faint light. I could see the silhouette of a few people. As I approach closer, I see someone lying beside a car. I rush to the spot. A lady in her early-thirties covered in a pool of blood. That’s exactly what I saw. I check for her pulse- it’s still there, though not regular.I immediately call an ambulance. I nervously tell them the address as I look around for anyone else to be around. But there was no one.
The ambulance arrived in a few minutes. They immediately loaded her. I decided to go to the hospital. For the next few minutes, it was all traffic, CPR, and swinging of doors.
I woke up the next day in the hospital. Wow, i couldn’t believe I spent the night here. Speaking of which, I terribly got reminded of mom. I take the phone only to find it dead. At the moment, the doctor arrives. He tells she’s alright and the timing was really tense. I was heaved a sigh of relief. Then I got to talk to my mom through someone’s phone. She was obviously terrified but seemed proud.
It was a great day. Had I not gone there yesterday to stay out of trouble, things would have been disastrous. After all, what’s worth a human life ?
