The Minor in Creative Writing exposes undergraduates at Ashoka University to the practice of writing poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. The minor is a 24 point credit load. The Introduction to Creative Writing course - available for first and second years - is an introduction to creative writing in two genres. It is the foundational course and is followed by twenty additional credits from the Creative Writing Program’s offerings. Students must take workshops worth 12 credits to earn the minor.
 
The focus of the minor is to expose students to a diverse range of texts as well as assist them to look at literature from the point of view of a practitioner. The aim of the program is not only to help beginning writers, but also develop the writing skills of undergraduates who would go on to work in a variety of professions including law, journalism, publishing, copywriting and editing, as well as students who will go on to advanced practice in writing and/or other forms of academic scholarship. Any student who wants to learn writing skills to organise information into effective narrative and communicative forms will benefit from this minor.
