CRITERIA USED FOR CLASSIFICATION

As, we know that classification is a method by which an organism is classified in separate group based on some criteria which helps us to understand the nature of the organism. In simpler words this classification helps us to know the presence of an organism in a particular group/class. Some of the criteria used for classification are:-

  • Type of nucleus:- Certain organisms have either a well-developed nucleus or a primitive nuclues. So, well-developed nucleated organisms are classified as eukaryotes and primitive nucleated organisms are classified as prokaryotes.

  • Number of cells:- Based on number of cells present in the body organisms are divided into two groups they are unicelluar (with one cell) and multi-cellular (with more than one cell). Example:- Paramoecium is unicellular and humans are multi-cellular organisms.

  • Mode of nutrition:- According to mode of nutrition organisms are divided into two groups they are either autotrophs who can make their own food and heterotrophs who can't make their own food. Example of autotrophs are green plants and heterotrophs are animals.
