The Night Train at Deoli by Ruskin Bond is a short story narrated in the first person perspective. It is a story of adolescent infatuation and is set in a small station Deoli on the way to Dehradun where the author is traveling to.  


The author meets a young girl selling cane baskets for a living at this station. He meets her only twice although he has crossed this station many times after that. But, there is no one who knows her to help him find her whereabouts. Although the author makes a self-resolution that he will once break journey and spend a day in Deoli to know more about the vendor, the halt never happens.
