The poet discusses the political turmoil in his native state, Manipur. The turmoil is caused by the conflict between the insurgents and the armed forces. The poem is about the horrific change of beautiful land into hell. It became filled with suspicion, turbulence, hunger, poverty and destruction.
The poem revolves around the political atmosphere that made Manipur declining. The people of Manipur believe that their beautiful past is now being spoiled by the cultural and political turbulence. As a result, people are dying of hunger and begging bowls in hand. On the view of its people, Ngangom starts to tear and burn the traces of present conditions.
The poet talk about the youth who returned home at Christmas. The youth has a heart full of hate and fear. Robin also tried to draw our attention to the conflicts happening between the insurgents and the Indian Armed forces. Due to this, Ngangom turned into the land of blood. The Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) permits to shoot anyone based on mere suspicion. The act renders the loss of many lives in Manipur.
