As we read the poem, we come to know that the hundred metres race is an event organised in Special Olympics. Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organisation for people with disabilities .This organisation helps these people to develop self-confifence and social skills. It conducts Special Olympics World Games every two years and provide children and adults with disabilities year-round training. As global movement, Special Olympics aim at making world a better, healthier and more joyful place.

The runners participating in the race in Special Olympics displayed friendliness, kindness, team spirit and cooperation.They empathised with the one who had fallen down and helped him instantly, at the cost of losing the race. This act of selflessness compelled the narrator to say that the banner that read Special Olympics, "could not have been nearer the marks."
