Satyajit Ray (1921 – 1992), was a Calcutta-based cinematographer and was popular for his way of experimenting with film-making. He was also an amazing writer who wrote mainly for children and for adolescents. He would conjure up different complex plots from normal situations in his stories. His horror stories created brutal shocks for the readers.

Fritz is an example of a horror story written by Satyajit Ray.

Fritz is a story set in the British era, in a small circuit house in a small town called Bundi in the state of Rajasthan.  A man returns to the house which he had visited when he was a child. He is suddenly reminded of a Swiss doll which was gifted to him by his uncle. He remembers burying it in a corner of the lawn after it was torn apart by a dog. However, that night, he feels that the doll, Fritz has come back to life and is eager to play with his old friend.

The author uses horror through inanimate things in this story by creating an atmosphere full of fear, chimera, and chaos.
