I Think It Rains is written on the theme of smoking which may be liked or disliked.

The poet compares the puffing out of cigarettes to rainfall and the smoke is compared to rain reeds.

In the last paragraph of this poem Soyinka came to the conclusion that smoking is injurious to health without any benefits.
