The study examined the successes and failures of HIV and AIDS campaigning in the community testing in Mahikeng local municipality. This study approached it from the perspective of the effect of HIV counselling and testing (HCT) campaign on the implementation of HIV services in Mahikeng Health Sub District, North West Province, South Africa. This is because HCT was one of the interventions of HIV prevention. This study applied the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20.0 to analyse the secondary data used with specific reference to frequencies, standard deviation, mean and percentages to describe the data. Acute Respiratory Disease Syndrome (AIDS) is the disease which is caused due to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV). These are non communicable  disease which usually deteriorate the immune system of affected person.

Following the last survey report, there are more than 2 million cases of AIDS come out every year all over the world.

In India, the counts goes to 2 lakh every year. Due to this various campaign and awareness programs is organized in India. The evaluation of success and failures of these programs are :-

Success-

1. The awareness programs helps people to understand the reasons behind the spreading of AIDS.

2. Awareness programs basically targeted the youth which is most vulnerable to this disease and helps in reducing the growth rate of AIDS.

3. Also, it cleared the perception of people towards the spread of this just by touching or contacting affected person. This view is cleared by the awareness programs.

Failure-

1. Though the awareness program ensure the proper medication for the disease, it failed to deliver antiretrovial treatment to the patients.

2. The reach of these programs are only restricted to urban areas and no rural areas. Thus, due to this, it became a major failure.

3. In India, people do not consider this disease as non communicable. The awareness program though work for this but not able to change the perceptions of people still.
