The purpose of imperialism is to decrease the strategic and political vulnerability of a nation. Imperialism is objectless expansion, a pattern simply learned from the behavior of other nations and institutionalized into the domestic political processes of a state by a "warrior" class.

Monopoly, which served as the heart of the logic of Lenin's theory, supported the basic existence of the theoretical system of imperialism. Lenin stressed that “If it were necessary to give the briefest possible definition of imperialism we should have to say that imperialism is the monopoly stage of capitalism.”
