Hi frnd

Here to help

Plz mark as brainliest!!!

...... The number of consumer group in India is about 700 , but only about 20-25 are recognised by the govt. Eventough the activities of the groups have increased in the recent years , the redressal process is still expensive and consuming . The existing laws are not effective as far as compensation for defective products is concerned . Even after 25 ( more than 25 ) of enacting of the Consumer Protection Act ( COPRA ) , a large section of are still unaware of their rights . The rules and regulations applicable to the market place are not often followed. The consumer movement can become more effective only when consumers are aware of their rights

Hope it helps

Answer:

  • In India, the consumer movement originated as a 'social force' with the necessity of protecting and promoting the interests of consumers against unethical and unfair trade practices.

  • Rampant food shortages, hoarding, black marketing, adulteration of food and edible oil gave birth to the consumer movement in an organised form in the 1960s.

  • Till the 1970s, consumer organisations were largely engaged in writing articles and holding exhibitions. They formed consumer groups to look into the malpractices in ration shops and overcrowding in the road passenger transport.

More recently, India witnessed an upsurge in the number of consumer groups.

Hope it works for you!!!
