The Maratha power was raised in the 17th century. Shivaji and his people fought against the Mughals and had turned the Marathas into a superb and powerful fighting force.

The inspirational influence by various social and religious leaders had put a great impact on it. Their love for their motherland compelled them to fight for protecting their motherland.

According to M.G Ranade, the Maharashtra Dharma led to political independence of Marathas on the basis of the aggressive Hinduism.
