King Dushyant and Shakuntala met in the hermitage of sage Kanva and fell in love. They secretly married there and Dushyant returned to his capital. Shakuntala was cursed by the sage Durvasa, for not showing him proper respect.
So she lost the ring given to her by Dushyant and consequently the king did not recognize her. She felt insulted and went to another hermitage, where their son Bharata was born.
Later, Dushyant regained his memory after seeing the ring, which was restored from a fish. Then he searched out his wife and son, to bring them back to his palace.
