When an external force is applied on any non rigid object, its shape changes(i.e., it gets deformed).

Example- 1. when u compress a spring or stretch it..its shape changes.

2. When u apply some external force on dough or clay its shape changes.

reason--

in non rigid objects the intermolecular spaces are more than that in a rigid object and its intermolecular force of attraction is comparatively less.
