Answer:

Radiation-use efficiency (RUE) is the ratio of total biomass accumulated to total solar radiation or crop canopy intercepted photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) (Allen et al., 1998). The overall RUE of crops strongly depends on its micro climate, duration of greenness, nutrient and moisture status of plant and soil (Stöckle and Kemanian, 2009). Under stress free environment higher RUE is associated with greater biomass production (Sinclair and Muchow, 1999).

Answer:

The discovery that plant and crop growth is closely linked to the amount of intercepted radiation led to the establishment of methods for measuring radiation use efficiency (RUE) . ... In the absence of other factors, RUE will set the theoretical limit to biomass production and ultimately crop yield.
