Certains crops need specific nutrients in the soils like Mg+ Cu+ etc for their growth
When we grow same kind of crop again and again then those specific nutrients or minerals are exhausted and minerals are imbalenced in the soil
For example
We have cultivated the crops which needs Mg+ for their growth so that crop will use us all the mg+ in the soil and soil will become imbalanced
When we do crop rotation (growing different crops one after another) the minerals in the soil remain balanced as some are used by the crops and some are produced by the crops which will be used by another crop
There is another technique in which we don’t need crop rotation and we can grow what ever crop we want again and again
That technique is adding of fertilizer
Which provides the soil with minerals and nutrients which are exhausted and crops can grow well
