Cube of side 6 cm, has cut into 64 smaller but identical cubes. If it was estimated that it would take a 4 litres of paint to paint all the faces of the original cube, then how much paint is the original cube, then how much paint is required to paint all the faces of all the smaller cubes?

A cube has 6 faces. According to the question 4 litres is used to paint the original cube. So to paint 1 face you would need 4/6 litres of paint.

In order to make 64 smaller and identical cubes, 3 cuts are required along the 3 faces. A total of 9 cuts. 1 cut creates 2 new faces, so 9 cuts would make 18 new faces.

Extra paint needed = 4/6 * 18 = 12 litres

Total paint needed = 12+4 = 16 litres.
