Warli was an indigenous tribe of coastal regions of Maharashtra- Gujarat border. Warli painting is named after this tribe and is known as the indigenous art of Maharashtra. Mainly women were engaged in the production of Warli art. People of this tribe, depicted their lifestyle, customs and culture through their art. The purpose of the painting remained ritual as it was in the ancient times. The Warli art depicted special events such as marriage or harvesting.
