Given:

Number of cups sold in a package = 5

Number of plates sold in a package = 10

To find:

Least number of packages we need to buy so that we have same number of each item.

Solution:

Let the number of packages of cups bought = x

And number of packages of plates bought = y

Each package has 5 cups and 10 plates, therefore the total number of cups and plates will be 5x and 10y respectively.

As given in the question:

5x = 10y

x = 2y

Therefore if we want equal number of items then for every one package of plates we need to buy two packages of cups.

Least number of packages to be bought: 2 packages of cups and 1 package of plates.
