Cups are sold in a package of 4 and plates are sold in a package of 10. If you want to have the same number of each item for a party, what is the least number of package of each you need to buy

For getting the same number of items , we have to find the LCM .

first we prime factorise them : (2 x 2),(2 x 5)

So we have grouped the 2 in the fist and second set . Now this is considered as 1 term .

so LCM = product of common prime factors and remaining prime factors

             = 2 x 2 x 5

             = 40
