In the electricity sector renewable energy (excluding large hydro) accounted for 18.37% of the total installed power capacity (60.98 GW) in India as of 31 October 2017. In previous years the share of renewable grid capacity increased 6 fold from 2% (3.9 GW) in 2002 to around 13% (36 GW) by 2015.
