If we connect a electrical device in parallel then the voltage across all the components will remain same. So, if one of the components fails then also the circuit will work.

But if the components are connected in series then falling of one component will lead to non functioning of the whole circuit.

Example- Consider the case of diwali decoration lights...if one bulb fuses then the whole chain damages... though now a days the light chains are made in different way to prevent malfunctioning of all bulbs...
