First of all, let us talk about a broader meaning of oxidation & reduction, rather than just in terms of oxygen and hydrogen.

Oxidation:

  • Loss of electrons
  • Gain of electronegative element
  • Loss of electropositive element

Reduction:

  • Gain of electrons
  • Gain of electropositive element
  • Loss of electronegative element

Now,the charge on all these ion are as;

Cu⁺²SO₄⁻² + Fe⁺² = Cu⁺² + Fe⁺²SO₄⁻²

  • Cu is electropositive
  • SO₄ is electronegative
  • Fe is electropositive

As,

  • Cu is losing a electronegative element so, CuSO₄ is getting reduced
  • Fe is gaining a electronegative element, thus Fe is getting oxidized.

Conclusion: Oxidation - Fe & Reduction - CuSO₄

[Equation of both oxidation & reduction is already there,amn't getting the question properly.]
