cut a lemon on top of the kitchen self /marble and leave the surface for few hours .we can observe colour change/ stain on the surface.what does the observation represent? describe a natural phenomenon showing similiar observation.

When we cut a lemon and let it be placed on a marble shelf, then after sometime we will find that the marble surface is weared out. This happens because the citric acid in lemon reacts with calcium carbonate in marble to release carbon dioxide and leaving a residual material on the surface of marble.
A similar natural phenomena is also of apple, that when it is cut and left in air, would change its color as it gets oxidized
