- Old Stone Age people had two ways of obtaining food, by hunting and gathering.
- They need tools because these tools were mainly used for cutting, digging, and skinning the prey.
- They may have used pieces of flint stones banged together to created sparks. They may have rubbed two sticks together generating enough heat to start the fire.
- Early humans could express thoughts and feelings by means of speech or by signs or gestures.
- One late stage Old Stone Age site, excavated at Hunasagi, contained stone tools and weapons made from a reddish-brown chert. Tools found included longish blades with sharp edges and many multi purpose instruments.

- The Early Stone Age began with the most basic stone implements made by early humans. These Oldowan toolkits include hammerstones, stone cores, and sharp stone flakes. By about 1.76 million years ago, early humans began to make Acheulean handaxes and other large cutting tools.Backed blade, core, point, triangle, lunate and trapeze are the main Mesolithic tools. However, some tools used earlier, like scraper, burin and choppers, continue.
