a) The moist climate of area helped in the growth of cotton so raw cotton was readily available in area

b) There are ports nearby so the manufactured goods could be easily transported.

c) There are enough labour force in the area. There are Farmers, cotton ball pluckers and workers who does the work of spinning ,weaving ,dyeing, tailoring & sewing.

d) It was easy to access the market for finished goods from here.

e) Other supporting industries involved manufacturing dyes & packing materials are available in those areas.

2. Factors contributing to the development of IT in Bengaluru are:

a. The growth of IT industry can be attributed to a series of political, social, economic and cultural factors.  

b. The main factors guiding the location of these industries are resource availability, cost and infrastructure.

c. Bengaluru has largest number of educational institutions and IT colleges that provided for skilled and trained manpower for the IT industry.

d. The city has always attracted people because of low rent, good housing facility.

e. It has highest availability of skilled top and middle level executives.

f. There is also ample support from the state government which was first to announce IT policy in 1992.

3. A basic industry produces goods that act as raw material for other industries and are not directly consumed or used by people. For example, iron and steel industry is a basic industry that produces iron or steel which is used by other industries to manufacture machines and other equipments.

A consumer industry uses the raw materials produces by the basic industries to manufacture goods that are directly used by consumers. For example, furniture industries use wood to make chairs, tables and other goods that are not processed further and are directly used by people.

In my opinion, consumer industries should be given priority as they are involved in foreign exchange and therefore important for the country's development.

4. (i) Manufacturing industries help in modernising agriculture which forms the backbone of our economy. (ii) It reduces the heavy dependence of people on agriculture sector and creates jobs in secondary and tertiary sectors. (iii) It is necessary for the removal of unemployment and poverty.
