Answer:
D.
- Utility and value of a resource varies from time to time and place to place. Time and technology are the two factors that change the value of substances and make them resources.
- Time: With new technology, the resources hitherto available can gain new utility and hence value. For example, in the case of solar power - though sunlight was freely available, sunlight had no utility in terms of generating power, before the advents in solar technology. However, with the development in solar power technology, sunlight now has much higher utility
- Place: The value of resources varies from place to place. The resources that are plentifully available in a region are consumed abundantly, and people of the region may attach lower value to such resources. The same resource are consumed scarcely in places where they are not found amply. The value of the same resource in two such places will be different. For example, the price and the value of oil in UAE are much lower than that of India since UAE has much higher reserves of the resource.
- Human being is considered to be the most important resource for development because humans are the only one who had such a great brain which make them know how to utilise the god gifted resources so without humans the resources are just a waste.
- They are only one who have enough technology and skills to use the nature
- Abiotic factors refer to non-living physical and chemical elements in the ecosystem. Examples of abiotic factors are water, air, soil, sunlight, and minerals. Biotic factors are living or once-living organisms in the ecosystem. These are obtained from the biosphere and are capable of reproduction.
- It is essential to have resource planning because of the following reasons: 1) It helps to identify the various resources present in different regions of the country. 2) It helps in the conservation of various non-renewable/extinguishable resources. 3) It helps in reducing wastage of resources.
- Availability of resources.
- Skill of human beings.
- Availability of capital.
- Availability of water.
- Advanvement of technology.
- Availability of transport and communication facilities.
E.
- Human needs and wants are neither uniform in all parts of the world nor static over the years. They generally grow and become complex with the process of change in the society. In ancient times, emphasis was mainly given on satisfying the basic needs, such as food clothing and shelter which was derived from the natural environment. Even today, the pygmies of Africa eat edible plants, roots, flowers and fruits, and hunt animals. In advanced societies, greater emphasis has been given to utilization of resources for satisfying the multifarious needs of human beings..
- Example - solar energy, wind energy, etc. Non-renewable Sources of Energy - the sources of energy that can be used in limited resources or that can't be replenished easily. We should prefer renewable sources of energy because they can be replenished easily and can be used again and again.
- Sustainable development is the need of the hour because the resources obtained from the environment need to be used judiously nd sustainably to be conserved for future use and it does not cause any pollution or harmful affect to environment.
- Resources can be classified on different bases; into following types:
- ✔On the basis of origin: Biotic and Abiotic
- ✔On the basis of exhaustibility: Renewable and Non-renewable
- ✔On the basis of ownership: Individual, community, national and international
- ✔On the basis of status of development: Potential, Developed, Stock and Reserves
