D block elements show variable oxidation numbers but f block do not

Hey frnd

This is because the difference of energy between ( n − 1 ) d and orbitals is very small. Hence electrons from both the energy levels can be removed to exhibit variable oxidation states . In f - block elements the f orbitals lie underneath and hence are not available for bond formation .
