While selecting the motor for a particular type of Application, the following two factors play a important role:
1. The variation of speed with change in load.
2. The variation of Torque with change in load.
Dc shunt Motors run at a constant speed .If load is applied it tends to slows down which results in increase in armature current. This process continues until current produces high torque to meet the demands of increased load.
Hence, It is suggested to use in devices which should have constant speed where high starting torque is not required like:
Crane
Lathe
Flour mill
Rolling mill
