D. 1) A plateau is a flat, elevated landform that rises sharply above the surrounding area on at least one side. Plateaus occur on every continent and take up a third of the Earths land. They are one of the four major landforms, along with mountains, plains, and hills.

2)A river basin is the portion of land drained by a river and its tributaries. It encompasses all of the land surface dissected and drained by many streams and creeks that flow downhill into one another, and eventually into the Milwaukee River.

4)In geography, an oasis is a fertile area in a desert or semi-desert environment. Oases also provide habitats for animals and plants.

5)A lagoon is a shallow body of water separated from a larger body of water by reefs, barrier islands, or a barrier peninsula. Lagoons are commonly divided into coastal lagoons and atoll lagoons. They have also been identified as occurring on mixed-sand and gravel coastlines.

E. 1)Kayals are the shallow lagoons or inlets of the sea, lying parallel to the coastline. The largest among these is the Vembanad Lake.
