D. Give short answers for the following questions.

1.All gifts of nature are resources in one way or the other. As we already know that fossil fuels, water, wind, sunlight, forests, animals, minerals, valuable metals and even tides are the gifts of nature that we use as resources

2.factors that determine the utility of any natural resource are

1.the state in which it occurs

2.the place where it occurs

3.the efforts needed to process it

4.the cost of processing it.

3.Human beings are considered as an important resource because they make the use of the nature to create more resources. They can do this as they have the knowledge, skill and the technology to do so.This ability is acquired by people on the basis of education received by them.Human resource refers to human capital which can make use of land & capital.Population becomes a human resource when there's investment made in form of education, health & training. On other hand, land is natural resource.& physical capital includes tools, machines, buildings, raw materials, etc. If human beings are not there the development of region isn't possible.Without man,no country/city can prosper. So,Human beings are the important resource in nature.

4.Conservation of resources is the ethical use and protection of valuable resources, such as trees, minerals, wildlife, water and others. It focuses on maintaining the natural world in order to protect the sources of resources.

sustainable development Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

E.Give long answers for the following questions.

1. Nature has a large variety of rocks, soils, minerals, natural vegetation and animals, These are called gifts of nature. Resource refers to all the materials available in our environment which helps us to satisfy our needs. The gifts of nature may become valuable resources with the passage of time technology and value addition. For Eg:- a waterfall is a gift of nature. It has force, which can be used to drive a water wheel. When a technique was developed to harness this force of falling water is used to generate hydroelectricity. Thus, this gift of nature has become a valuable resource.

2.Classification of Resources :

⏪On the Basis of Origin :

↪Biotic [ plants and Animals ]

↪Abiotic [ minerals and metals ]

⏪On the Basis of Exhaustion

↪Renewable Sources [ solar energy , Tidal energy ]

↪Non Renewable sources [ Fossil Fuels ]

⏪On the Basis of Ownership

↪Private Resources [ Car , plot of land ]

↪Community Resources [ Hospitals , Parks ]

↪National Resources [ All Resources of a country belong to the Nation ]

↪International Resource [ resources above 12 Nautical miles ]

⏪On the Basis of Status of Development :

↪Developed Resources [ With Estimated Quality and Quantity ]

↪Potential Resources [ Wind Energy in Rajasthan ]

↪Stock and Reserves [ water and dams ]

3.Renewable resources are solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, biofuels, cultivated plants, biomass, air, water and soil. In contrast, non-renewable resources are those that are available to us in limited quantities, or those that are renewed so slowly that the rate at which they are consumed is too fast

4.conservation of resources is essential because as using them recklessly may exhaust them and future generation have to compromise. some resources take time in their formation such as fossil fuel and using them recklessly is going to be harmful for the environment. therefore sustainable development of resources is necessary.

5.yes it can it becomes an resource when its value is discovered. the value of such a thing must have been there all along but it only appeals to a man as a resource to meet a need. it becomes a resource when its value or importance is discovered. The value of such a thing must have been there all along but it only appeals to man as a resource when he can use it to meet a need.

6.The use of resources should be sustainable because many non renewable resources like coal and petroleum can be exhausted if they are over exploited. Sustainability of resources means that resources should be utilised in such a way so that requirements of not only the present generation but also the future generations are met. Over exploitation of resources would result in depletion of various fossil feuls, metals etc. This will hamper the economic development of the nations.

Further, the over exploitation of resources also seriously impact the environment. For example, the Bellary mining in the state of Karnataka has threatened the environmental balance.
