Answer:
1) Resources like coal has to be found, mined and extracted. Gifts of nature like sun, water, air etc. are transformed into resources by human beings and resources satisfy our needs!! All the materials present in our environment can be called resources.
2) The utility of natural resources are determined by the value of resources, time, technology, human skills and the cost of processing a natural resources
3)Human beings are considered as an important resource because they make the best use of the nature to create more resources. They can do this as they have the knowledge, skill and the technology to do so. This ability is acquired by people on the basis of education received by them.
4) Resource conservation means using the available resources carefully and giving them time to get renewed. Sustainable development means balancing our present needs of using resources without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
E. Give long answers for the following questions.
1) Gifts of nature like water, soil, minerals, vegetation etc. can be converted into resource by proper utilisation through adequate technology. For example, coal can be used as a source of power. It is found in blast furnaces used for smelting iron ore.The occurrence of coal reserves was one of the major reasons for the outbreak of the industrial revolution. But coal reserves are getting depleted because of its extensive use.
Petroleum is used for transportation of vehicles. It is a crude oil. The consumption of petroleum products have been rising steeply over years.
2) Natural resources are also classified based on their renewability:
Renewable natural resources: these are resources that can be replenished. Examples of renewable resources include sunlight, air, and wind. ...
Non-renewable natural resources: these resources form extremely slow and do not naturally form in the environment.
3) Renewable Resources
The resources which cannot be exhausted even after continuous utilization are termed as renewable resources. Examples of renewable resources are the sun, wind, and tidal energy.
Non-Renewable Resources
The resources which cannot be immediately replaced once they are depleted are called Non-renewable resources. Examples of Non-renewable resources include fossil fuels, such as coal, petroleum and natural gas and rare minerals typically found in meteorites.
Now, let us have a look at the major differences between renewable resources and non-renewable resources.

4) Conservation of resources is essential for the following reasons:
The resources if over-exploited can cause serious damage to the existing environment.
Will help in reducing the problems faced by the improper exploitation of renewable resources.
It maintains a potential to not only meet the needs and aspirations of the present generation but also for nurturing the future generations.
To take full advantage of ecological knowledge and to manage the ecosystems of the world.
Therefore, as all of our lives are interlinked it becomes all the more important to conserve the resources.
5) Yes, a gift of nature can become a resource in the following manner:
Foremost, if human beings are able to recognise any substances as a resource.
Subsequently, over a period of time there is a development of or in technology which has made the substance to transform/convert or to be utilised as a resource.
Finally, the value provides the economical worth of a substance.
For example: Uranium found in Ladakh. It was discovered by people, with time technology will be used to utilise it and then its economical value will finally either transform or not tranform it into a resource
6) The use of resources should be sustainable because many non renewable resources like coal and petroleum can be exhausted if they are over exploited. Sustainability of resources means that resources should be utilised in such a way so that requirements of not only the present generation but also the future generations are met. Over exploitation of resources would result in depletion of various fossil fuels, metals etc. This will hamper the economic development of the nations.
Further, the over exploitation of resources also seriously impact the environment. For example, the Bellary mining in the state of Karnataka has threatened the environmental balance.
