upland rice is grown in rainfed ,naturally well drained soils without surface water accumulated. farmers in the hill are among the poorest and usually are not able to afford using fertilizers. upland verities are drought tolerant ,but it have a low yield potential.

low land rice is grown in field that can be flooded and they are either rain-fed or irrigated. rice is grown in large quantities for market and fertilisers are used .
