He is so experienced with this that he can understand which snake bit the person just by looking at the mark. Then he would give the proper medicine for that. He is sad about the part where he says that he has not been on time in some places as some snake bites can cause death on the spot.
To my knowledge, they don't. Any treatments like applying wet tobacco, cobra pearls, etc are placebo, unless new scientific evidence comes forth, which is probably doubtful. Some people do recover from snake bite, or it may be a dry bite where no venom is actually injected. The snake charmer is more than happy to take the credit.
If the victim dies, I'm sure they have an excuse at the ready.
The real harm these “treatments” do is delaying or replacing real medical treatment. I understand that in parts of the world medical treatment may be far away, but regardless it's still better to try to make it there than hoping that useless treatments will work.
