D. Read the given passage, underline all the verbs and write the
prepositions along the roots:
Thimmakka was born in Hulikal village in Magadi
taluka, a rural district near Bengaluru, Karnataka. She did not go
to school as her family could not afford to send her to school.
Thus, she did not learn to read or write. She started working at an
early age to add to the family earnings. When she grew up, she was
married to Chikkana, a cowhers. But they were not blessed with
children. Thimmakka decided she would nurture life by planting
saplings and tending to the plants that grow.
Banyan trees grew in plenty near Thimmakka's
village. So Thimmakka and her husband decided to plant saplings
cut from these trees along the road side. Walking under the
scorching heat during the day caused difficulties for weary
travellers.
They chose to plant the saplings during the monsoons
as sufficient rain water would be available. Through the rest of
the year, they watered each new sapling twice a week. Thimmakka
and Chikkana carried water in large pots, balancing one pot on
one hip and another on their head for a distance of four
kilometers to water the saplings. The two of them planted two
hundred and eighty four trees together.
